Smart Remote after Discontinuation

Hi Everyone,

Following the announcement of Smart Remote discontinuation, we have been getting some questions about the functionalities still enabled after May 31st, 2022.

Here is an exhaustive list of what will, and what will no longer function after May 31st:

Software Update and Support:

Smart Remote will not be able to upgrade to latest software updates, so if your Smart Remote is not on the latest version v0.76.3, you should update it as soon as possible (before May 31st 2022).

After this date, you should not reset your Smart Remote, this will remove your configuration and without the Mobile application, it will render your Smart Remote unusable.

Mobile Application:

The mobile app will stop functioning, and will not be available on the Apple App Store/ Google Play App Store

This means that you will no longer be able to add a new device, or to remove existing devices on your Smart Remote.

You will not have access to any device configurations (change name, create/change groups or scenes, change carousel display order...).

And finally, you won’t be able to create a new Home (Smart Remote configuration) or to add a Smart Remote to an existing Home. (Configuration sharing).

Compatibilities:

Infrared Compatible:

Infrared devices fully installed and configured on Smart Remote before May 31st 2022 will continue to function as expected.

Important: adding, removing or modifying IR devices will no longer be supported after May 31st 2022

Bluetooth Compatible Devices:

Devices fully installed and configured on Smart Remote will continue to function as expected unless the interface of the 3rd party changes (see "Important" note below). This is assuming you don’t need the App to update or reload your Smart Remote configuration.

Important: we cannot guarantee that you will be able to control these devices in the future. These compatible devices rely on partner device’s interfaces. These partner’s interfaces (API) may change at any time and break the ability for Smart Remote to control these devices.

Wi-Fi Compatible Devices & Services:

Devices fully installed and configured on Smart Remote will continue to function as expected unless the interface of the 3rd party changes (see "Important" note below) assuming you don’t need the App to update or reload your Smart Remote configuration.

Important: we cannot guarantee that you will be able to control these devices in the future. These compatible devices rely on partner device’s interfaces. These partner’s interfaces (API) may change at any time and break the ability for Smart Remote to control these devices.

Important: Sonos and Spotify need specific cloud level service management and will no longer be compatible with Smart Remote. You will not be able to control them.
