Issues controlling Apple TV while in Youtube, Netflix and HBO Max Apps

Since the latest Apple TV's software release (tv0S 13.4), we have noticed an issue using Smart Remote controlling Apple TV in the following apps:

  • Youtube App: both menu and arrows are not working anymore
  • Netflix App: the app starts to scroll indefinitely when using Smart Remote's trackpad
  • HBO Max: both menu and arrows are not working anymore

These issues have been introduced by the latest Apple TV's software for third party devices managed by Apple TV as "keyboard" like Smart Remote. 

We have reached out to Apple TV abut this issue and we hope this is going to be solved soon. We'll keep you updated. 

In the meantime, a workaround to get rid off this issue is to add your Apple TV as an infrared device instead: 

  1. Make sure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Smart Remote.

  2. Launch the Sevenhugs Smart Remote app and make sure you are on the Devices & Services tab.

  3. Select “Add a device or service".

  4. Select "Infrared Devices"

  5. Select the category Set-Top Boxes & Media Streamers

  6. Confirm your device location

  7. Search for and select the brand Apple

  8. Select “Enter my model manually.”  

  9. Enter and select your Apple TV model number, for example, "AppleTV4"

  10. Select Continue

Once your new Apple TV is added on Smart Remote, you should be able to control your Apple TV in Youtube App with no issue.
